2-2 AWARDS



a. GSDF Achievement Ribbon.



This Achievement Ribbon may be awarded to any commissioned/warrant/non-commissioned officer who has distinguished him/herself by meritorius achievement or service to a lesser degree than that required for award of the Commendation Medal (Ribbon). It will be awarded for exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity while serving as a member of the GSDF. The commander's recommendation must be based upon his own knowledge of the individual and his official record of military achievement or civilian mission support.

Because of the varying amounts of time and effort that can be applied by an individual during an operation, the Achievement Ribbon will consist of three (3) classes.



ACHIEVEMENT RIBBON, FIRST CLASS --- Ribbon with Bronze Palm

ACHIEVEMENT RIBBON, SECOND CLASS --- Ribbon with Hourglass

ACHIEVEMENT RIBBON, THIRD CLASS --- Ribbon only



The level of the award will be determined by the Awards Board of the issuing Authority and will be based on each individuals involvement in the particular operation. The issuing Authority for this award is HHD, GSDF

or Brigade HQ.



b. GSDF Outstanding Unit Citation Ribbon with Gold frame.



This award is intended to foster unit morale and to provide incentive and "esprit de corps" by recognizing those units which meet either of the following criteria:

(1) Service: Maintain an average unit training assembly attendance of 90% or better for eight (8) or more of the twelve (12) months of the training year; and have achieved a rating of satisfactory on the last IG report with no unsatisfactory rating in any sub-areas thereof.

(2) Achievement: Any Unit which has distinguished itself through performance of a specific act, deed, or mission the performance of which must have been accomplished in a manner that clearly exceeds that which is normally expected. Issuing authority for this award is HHD GSDF or Brigade Headquarters.



c. GSDF Good Conduct Ribbon.



This may be presented to any enlisted person that has demonstrated fidelity through faithful and exact performance of duty, efficiency through capacity to produce desired results, and whose behavior has been such as to deserve emulation. The minimum period of service for consideration for this award is not less than two (2) years of continuous active enlisted service. Issuing authority for this award is HHD GSDF, Brigade or Battalion Headquarters.



d. GSDF Longevity Service Ribbon.

This may be awarded to any officer or warrant officer for honorable and satisfactory service in the Georgia SDF for a continuous period of two (2) years. The years will be on an anniversary year rather than a calendar year basis. Issuing authority for this award is HHD, GSDF, and Brigade Headquarters or Battalion Headquarters.



e. GSDF State Active Duty Ribbon and Badge.



This ribbon is awarded for service performed in a State Active Duty status when called upon by the Governor or the Adjutant General of Georgia. It may be awarded to officers, warrant officers, and enlisted personnel of the Georgia State Defense Force who respond to a call of the Governor in any State emergency, or who voluntarily renders aid, assistance, or support which results in the saving of life and property or reduction in damages or suffering during an emergency in any community; to any State Defense Force member who renders assistance for non-emergency State functions when called upon by the Governor or The Adjutant General of Georgia. A badge, consisting of a wreath with crossed bayonets, will be issued along with the ribbon for one or more calls to State Active Duty. For five (5) or more calls, a wreath, will be issued. This badge is to be worn on the utility uniform above the state strip.

To be eligible, the individual must serve at least one (1) day or one (1) shift on State Active Duty under official orders published by Headquarters GSDF or by a GSDF Brigade Headquarters.

Issuing authority for this is HHD, GSDF or Brigade Headquarters.



f. GSDF Military Qualification Training Ribbon.



This may be awarded to any member for the successful completion of any resident course, the contents of which will aid the training or capacity for mission accomplishment of the Georgia SDF in general. Including aid to civil authorities. While not mandatory, the course should be related to the individuals grade, branch, and primary or secondary MOS. This may be accomplished as a resident student of at least four (4) days at any U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard or GSDF Service School or Federal Emergency Management Training School. Evidence of completion of such a course is mandatory and it must be in the form of an official diploma or certificate from the service school or training facility. Issuing authority for this award is HHD, GSDF or Brigade Headquarters.



g. GSDF Military Indoctrination Ribbon.



This may be awarded to any member who successfully completes any military indoctrination course including entry level courses appropriate for the individual grade, branch, and primary or secondary MOS. This may be accomplished by correspondence courses, by unit training or as resident student of at least two (2) days at any U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard or GSDF Service School. Evidence of completion of such a course is mandatory and it must be in the form of an official diploma or certificate or a letter from an officer or instructor of the institution or organization giving the course. Issuing authority for this award is Brigade and Battalion levels.





h. GSDF Emergency Service School Ribbon.



This may be awarded to any member who has satisfactorily completed any course dealing with military or civilian emergencies by correspondence or as a resident student in a U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, or civilian school program. This includes, but is not limited to: areas of planning, coordination, management or execution and for example, it includes such areas as CPR courses, American Red Cross First Aid courses, Radiological Monitoring, Riot Control, etc. Evidence of completion of such a course is mandatory and it must be in the form of an official diploma or certificate or a letter from an officer or instructor of the institution or organization giving the course. Issuing authority for this award is Brigade and Battalion levels.



i. GSDF Volunteer Service Award.



This may be awarded to any member who has completed a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service to the Georgia State Defense Force during an anniversary year, exclusive of attendance at drills, staff meetings, ceremonies and parades. For those personnel who complete a minimum of 500 hours, the Service Ribbon will have a gold oak leaf affixed. Issuing authority for this award is Brigade and Battalion levels.



j. GSDF Military Readiness Ribbon.



This may be awarded to any member for 100% attendance at all scheduled GSDF drill and training functions within a two-(2) anniversary year period. Issuing authority for this award is Brigade and Battalion levels.



k. GSDF Unit Commander's Award Ribbon with Gold Frame and Certificate.



This award is presented to personnel within a unit by the Unit Commander to recognize an individuals outstanding duty and service to their unit. It must be based on a Unit Commander's personal knowledge of the individual, his official record and his support to the unit and its mission. Both officer and enlisted personnel are eligible to receive this award. This award can be authorized no more than one (1) time in a twenty-four-(24) month period. The Unit Commander is the approving authority for this award.



l. GSDF Recruiting Achievement Ribbon.



This may be awarded to any member who recruits five (5) new enlistees or officers within any twelve-(12) month period. Certification of the enlistees and appointments will accompany recommendations for the award and a list indicating names and dates of those enlisted or appointed is required. An enlistee or appointed member MUST serve a minimum of their terms of enlistment. Re-enlistments DO NOT qualify in meeting the criteria for this award. Issuing authority for this award is Brigade and Battalion levels.



m. GSDF Military Proficiency Ribbon.



This is awarded to any member who has attained a military rating of excellent or superior in the performance of his assigned duties as well as displaying a high level of proficiency in all those skills required of his MOS. The minimum time required is one (1) year (12 months). Issuing authority for this award is Brigade and Battalion levels.
